Ganpati 2024: RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das visited the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal in Mumbai’s Parel area on September 11, ANI reported.
Besides Das, a large number of devotees queued up at the Lalbaugcha Raja in Mumbai on September 11, the news agency added.
The Lalbaugcha Raja’s iconic Ganesh idol is a “central attraction” during the Ganesh Chaturthi festival in India’s financial capital, it added. The venue draws thousands-strong crowds seeking Lord Ganesha’s blessings.
Started in 1934, the famous Ganesh Idol of Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, is located at Putlabai Chawl in Mumbai’s Parel area.
The idol and its celebrations have been managed by the custodian Kambli family for more than 80 years, as per the report.
The first look for the Lalbaugcha Raja was unveiled on September 5 this year, which showed the grand set-up for the city’s most anticipated Ganesh Chaturthi spots.
Mumbai’s famous Lalbaugcha Raja Ganeshotsav received donations worth ₹48.30 lakh on the first day of the Ganpati festival, ANI reported on September 8.
“The donation amounted to Rs. 48 lakh 30 thousand,” Mangesh Dattaram Dalvi, treasurer at Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, told ANI.
The news agency shared a video of people helping out in counting donations on its social media post on platform X. The people are members of the Lalbaugcha Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, where the donation was counted, as per the report.
The video also shows how the volunteers or the counting team counted coins and notes bestowed in the diety’s name. They were taking the notes off from the garlands made from money and adding to the stockpile of the currency denominations.
Ganesh Chaturthi, a 10-day festival that commenced on September 6, will continue until Anantha Chaturdashi or Vinayak Chaturthi on September 17.
Lord Ganesha is worshipped as the god of new beginnings and remover of obstacles during Ganesh Chaturthi. Devotees welcome Ganesh idols into their homes, offer prayers and visit the colourful pandals.
